"Twilight - New Moon" Tours

Yes, we have seen New Moon the second Twilight movie.  However, because so much computer-generated imagery was used, there is little that is recognizable and good for touring.

This was much the case for scenes from Will Smith in I-Robot: save for the Ovaltine Cafe on Hastings and Main--which, incidentally, was the location for Mulder on X-Files eating sweet potato pie in the episode entitled Jose Chung's from Outer Space.

Thus, it would be deceitful for our staff to represent that we could provide a meaningful New Moon tour.

"V - Pilot" on ABC Nov. 3rd!

Of course, scenes of this remake of the 1980's series were filmed in our Pendrell Suites Star Stay Three--it's the suite with green walls.

Then, the characters rush outside, stand at the front of Pendrell Suites and stare up at this gigantic spaceship hovering above the building.

(Imagine what Mulder would tell Scully: "Didn't I tell you...")

Here's the part of the set in Star Stay three--those bookcases tumble over:

GERMAN TV TAKES TOUR

On Monday, after NBC had departed Pendrell Suites, we met with the German Television station who has the broadcast rights for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

They were interested in "Hollywood North" and, while we did not shoot, they experienced Pendrell Suites, the pictures, memorabilia and grandeur.

Then they were treated to a Vancouver Back lot tour so they could plan for filming in early for stories for the Olympics.

With 10,000 press expected in Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics, we expect to be busy with reporters, etc.

NBC NIGHTLY NEWS WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS VISITS US!

Last week, NBC Nightly News Producer Amber Payne stayed with us at Pendrell Suites.

Then, with London-based Correspondent Dawna Friesen--who reports for NBC's "Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today" and MSNBC, the network's 24-hour news and information cable network--we filmed for stories on the Pendrell Suites Set Tour as well as the Vancouver Back lot tour!

Meanwhile, the NBC people visited Grouse Mountain, where the "Today" show will broadcast during the 2010 Winter Olympics and other Vancouver spots.

Possible add-on to Pendrell Suites 2010 Program

The International Child Art Foundation organizes the Arts Olympiad, a free global art and sport program for children ages 8 to 12, under exclusive license from the U.S. Olympic Committee.

It is the only organization that has an amazing art collection of children’s favorite sports, including winter sports.

There are two possibilities:

(a) 2010 Art & Sport Calendar.

Attached is a mockup we prepared last year for Sochi but did not manage to send it to the authorities in Russia. The second is a general purpose mockup, which was also never printed. Sadly the Canadian finalist work is not on winter sport but can be included. You will have the opportunity to select from our collection the artworks that more closely align with the sponsoring organization’s objectives.

ICAF will require a licensing arrangement with upfront fee, depending on number of calendars printed, and a percentage on sales. Incorporating cause marketing can boost sales.

(b) “Children Favorite Sport” Exhibition

The exhibition can be held at Pendrell or a venue of your choice. We can provide national Arts Olympiad finalists’ artworks from 50 countries, including Canada.

F.A.Q - For "Request For Proposal"

Some other points which may help people with submitting Proposals:

1. CURRENCY: USD$ or CAD$, but final agreements will be in USD$

2. VENUE FLOOR PLANS: We have a layout of the main floor two suites, foyer and meditation garden, which is not to scale; also, we have a floor plan for Star Stay One from a shoot which is to scale.

These are downloadable, respectively, here:

http://vanmovietours.com/pdfs/PS-floorplan.pdf

http://vanmovietours.com/pdfs/PS-floorplan-scale.pdf

3. SCOPE OF SERVICES: You may address as few or as many of the points comprising the program as you feel capable of executing.

This means, you can propose to execute certain of the points in the RFP either by yourself or in partnership with another company(ies).

For our part, we intend to organize the best "team" by combining proposals to address as many of the ways in which we can exploit our property during the 2010 Winter Olympics and thereabouts.

Of course, until we receive all the submissions, we cannot tell how that will unfold.

4. PRODUCTS PLACEMENT CLIENTS: We think that there would be a range of brands. They do not have to be Olympics sponsors, but if some were, that is fine. The only "Vancouver/B.C./Canada" sourced products would relate to the wines and hors d'ouvres served for the corporate hospitality. Those do not have to be "exclusively" from Vancouver or Canada, but thematically, local content of superb quality is all part of the opportunity with the Olympics.

5. BUDGET: We're not thinking of a budget per se.

Just assuming 1,000 people/day for 20 days over the Olympic period, ignoring pre- and post- activities, at Corporate Hospitality pricing with even rich variable costs means there's lots there.
This is before counting any other sponsorship revenue, broadcast/narrowcast, naming rights, etc. Proponents will be submitting their own, relevant cash flow budgets.

6. Where is Pendrell Suites relative to the venue for opening, closing and medal ceremonies--oh yeah, and hockey!

"V - Pilot" Trailer released

The remake of "V" the 80's TV series about aliens produced by ABC released some trailers recently.

Some scenes were shot at Pendrell Suites--a.k.a. "Alien House".

  • The pale green walled apartment is our Star Stay Three (3 - 5 secs. in)--this is the suite where Jackie Chan's scriptwriter in "Rumble in the Bronx" stayed while that movie filmed in Vancouver. Brian Dennehy also shot a movie there, among other stories about the suite.

  • "V" actors also rush out the front of Pendrell Suites and stare up at a hovering spaceship--(at 45 secs).

According to published sources, the TV series will air in early 2010.

NEW TV Coverage from Seattle!

Saint Bryan from KING5 TV in Seattle called me on Monday to say the piece we shot, along with cameraman Mike Hays was going to air on "Evening Magazine" on Wednesday evening.

I thought it was great coverage in that it highlighted the hotel with its Hollywood association.

Of course, having the aliens help us out was cool, too.

Here is a link to the clip:

2010 Olympic Deal

I own a small hotel and tour company. They are both fun and profitable.

Now we have the 2010 Winter Olympics coming and my unique assets should command a premium.

Some of the issues are:

  • Do we just rent out our accommodation?
  • Can we become a hospitality venue with a compelling marriage of Hollywood North PLUS the Winter Olympics?
  • What an fascinating insight into negotiating a deal!

We're going to document it here! So stay tuned!
